This app is a must for anyone who wants to learn long lists of just about anything… I used it in preparation of a Traditional Chinese Medicine exam to learn the functions of all acupuncture points and I couldn’t have done it without this app. It’s intuitive, user friendly, it lets you create additional facets to import pictures, videos, and what I found really useful is the possibility of syncing the cases with my iPhone to continue learning in public transport! The support team is highly competent and reactive and I always got an answer to my questions the same day. I highly recommend it.
This APP is great, but there is still room for good improvement. For instance, I couldn`t get to import flashcards from the internet in the desktop app, while I could easily do that in the iPhone app.
Syncing with iPhones app doesnt work. First, wi-fi sync and iCloud sync are different things. Second, wi-fi syncing is too complicated in this app, because you have to creat a network. Are you kiding me? Why this app cant work such others apps (Evernote, Things, etc) in terms of sync?
I dont write reviews usually but this app deserves praise. It delivers exactly what you need in a flashcard/memorization app. It looks beautiful. The interface for adding new cards is pretty straightforward but offers a lot of configuration and control for those with advanced needs. The presentation mode is perfect with simple keyboard controls to flip through your cards and test yourself. The program has different memorization modes (eg. cramming or long-term retention) to schedule your study based on what you need, and uses your feedback to prioritize the cards you screw up most often. The integration of the a backend to share and download TONS of free card sets from the Internet means that, depending on your topic, you might not need to input cards at all. The price may seem a little steep, but Mental Case does exactly what you need done, and it does it flawlessly.
With this Applicatoin you have a great learning experience. Its fun to learn with this beautiful designed application!
Only program to suit all my needs without a huge learning curve. Spoken text is GREAT for learning a foreign language. Huge online database available. Unfortunately, the program is instabile and tends to crash a lot, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt with 5 stars, because the support is awesome. We’ll see how fast they clear up the problems… v.2.5.2 27.03.2014
The icloud synchronization still doesn’t work very well! Apart from that, the app does its job quite nicely.
Have been “using” this software since 2011. First with Mac version later on iOS, too. Meanwhile, I looked around for other tools and must admit I staid with Mental Case in lack of a better tool. But its time to say good bye and move on. Yes the interface looks sort of nice (overdisigned IMHO), but its buggy and iCloud synchronizing is damn slow and unreliable at best. Better backup regularily or you are at risk of loosing your data completely (happend at least twice to me). If you look for a reliable tool for sincere study work, do yourself a favour and buy a stack of good old paper cards and do it the old way. You will save a lot of time and effort for your learning task.
nice while it works. but a real pain in the neck when it doesn’t. mental case started aborting without further do. dropbox sync was set in preferences. worked for some time. then the setting disappeared. no user friendly way to reset it. for a programm of this price, potential and bug-frequency a live chat would be a good idea
the software is good. Indeed, I think it’s excellent. However, having recently upgraded to this ‘Mental Case 2 from ‘Mental Case’, now I find the upgrade has been renamed ’Studies’. This is the second time they have renamed their software, and re-marketed it on the App Store, requiring me to pay the very high price to stay at the ‘bleeding edge’ of the technology. The only main new feature in their latest version, now called ‘Studies’, is the synchronisation improvement. the question is whether you really want to throw away another 40 Euros on the upgrade. For me, it’s disappointing, since I know that in about one year they will do the same thing all over again. It will be ‘Studies 2’… with yet another 40 E price tag.
Im a student and a long-time user of this app and its iOS counterpart, and I really dont know what I would do without it. Its so handy. I love its attractive and intuitive user interface and its great features like nested folders, and settings that can be customized generally and then overruled for particular folders (mental cases) or even particular flash cards (mental notes), in an easy and intuitive manner. As a student, the spaced repetition algorithm and automatic lesson scheduling have been my best friends. I also find them immensely helpful in my informal study of second languages, and in memorizing random quotes and facts that I come across in everyday life. I highly recommend this app to pretty much anyone that ever needs to learn anything.
Have been using it to study Ghaidhlig. Love the ability to search either for prompt or answer, any part of word, etc. Replaces dictionary for every day use. Data entry is easy and Mental Case can stay open while using another app so you can capture data from the source app.
I love the clean and professional look of the app and the ease of use. Really easy to sync with the Iphone App. But could you please make it that if you put a picture, it will fit the screen when studying the note? I dont really care for the good looking reflection effect if the picture is too small to see any details... One last thing, I would appreciate that the font size adjuste in a way that make sure that 1 line in the edit box = 1 line when studying... Many times, when I make a list of items, the font size is to big and a short list of 4 items takes 6 to 8 lines in the studying view Keep on the good work!
Nice app, but lack some basic and necessary functions, as ability to combine a few stacks into one. And syncronization between computers(via dropbox for example). If not for that would give 5 stars.
What did you guys do to the layout…sure it looks prettier, but the previous layout was much more useful. I came back from christmas break only to duscover that studying was now pretty much impossible. Why cant I preview slides anymore? Why cant I see a list of slides, with the date they were created etc. This was a great app until you updated it and sacrificed function for flash. Too bad.
.
Mental case has been an amazing study tool for me. As a student, I have to deal with a LOT of vocab terms and the fact that I have mental case on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac make studying these terms super effective.
this is the best flashcard app I could find. When the free trial ran out, I hadnt synced with my phone yet and lost all that work. thats the ONLY reason I paid for this app. If I wouldnt have lost all that time, I would have started using Quizlet on my MacBook … for FREE, then downloaded them to the Mental Case iPhone app… for FREE.
Same problem as Brenda. Lost a lot of time and answers. Just a heads up. For a fix right now (if you updated to 2.1.2) is hitting tab when youre done with answer. This is effectively the command-s.
