Having purchased the app, I have - to my distress - discovered that if one were to press the full screen button the app would freeze and not work at all. This is a serious bug which needs fixing immediately.

Full screen mode in OS X Lion freezes too
I think this is the best application ever so far. You can make lots and lots of things with this and it works perfectly. Great job. The only thing I would like better is the right or wrong options. I would like them more practical. But anyway... You wont regret the purchase. Besides you have the help support very reliable. They reply almost immediatly! Lovely.
It is very fantastic but it needs a serious SRS like ANKI and the possibility to import deck from ANKI. Also need an AUTOMATIC ICLOUD SYNC also with our iPhone!. A card where we can draw something. With these feature I will put FIVE STARS!!
althought my internet connection is 10Mb/s upload syncs feature of this app seems to not work. Both dropbox and icloud sync are not working. Please rewrite the sync code, becouse now is NOT working. if i use dropbox sync i get a notice fromdropbox app every 2 seconds that a file was added in my cloud folder. It’s an annoing bug.
This company recently released Studies as a replacement for Mental Case 2. I own both programs, and I can tell you that you should use Mental Case 2 instead of Studies. Studies is buggy mess that has a lot of syncing problems. For some reason, the geniuses at this company took away the ability to sync with DropBox in Studies. This means it syncs only with iCloud. And this means it is undependable. Mental Case 2 syncs with iCloud AND DropBox, and its DropBox syncing works well. Studies destroyed my flashcards database of around 900 flashcards TWICE! Never again will I give that buggy piece of garbage called Studies a chance. Want to avoid major headaches? Stick with Mental Case 2, and avoid Studies.
I used this app every day (also on phone and iPad) and really liked it. It began to have iCloud syncing problems until one day it just erased all of my notes! Over a year’s worth. Now they are moving to a new app. No thanks…what a waste of money. Will be looking elsewhere for a new app.
I spent WAY too much money on this app and it doesnt even work. I have tried to sync my flashcards to the iCloud in order to move my notes to my phone and it wont work because of an error. What a waste of my time and money. I should have stuck to paper flashcards.
Great app! Ive been using MC since v1 and it works great overall. Organizing cards, capturing screen shots from within the app, smart stacks.. has lots of useful features and far better than the other flash card apps ive tried. Definitely worth the purchase. Issues: iCloud works but will crash if you leave MC open on multiple devices. Some small formatting issues on occasion
One fault in the Mental Case 2 is that after searching in quizlet , we can’t see the flashcards of each serach result to help us to select which flash card is suitable to import in the Mental Case . So we have to download all of that flash cards and later select the desirable ones. It’s a great problem ! Mohammad
So I’ve been using mental case for a long time, and this semester I was in need of generating multiple choice tests to study with. The task is incredibly laborious on the mac, and on the iPhone many of the wrong answers were marked correct. Also it keeps the flip the card over layout in the iPhone version which is absolutely ridiculous for multiple choice.
Mental Case has taken out their local wifi sync option. Explanation (from their website): “it was too complex to do both wifi and iCloud” and (love this one) “that’s why it’s a new app and not an upgrade; we wanted people to have the option to backup to wifi by keeping the old app” (i.e., we couldn’t figure it out). Mental Case has taken out their local backup option. Explanation (from their website): “you should use Time Machine” (i.e., one less thing for us to worry about). Mental Case has taken out their selective sync option, so every flashcard you ever made will now be on your iPhone, all the time, not to mention eating up your iCloud storage. Explanation…[crickets]. The truth is the Mental Faculty have gotten lazy and incompetent. In many ways, Mental Case 2 does less than Mental Case 1; only problem, you can’t get the original version on the App Store any more.
This version is exteremly buggy and after tediously entering 38 notes to a new stack, I’m unalbe to view or edit these stack. At first I was only able to view the first few notes and then the app completely disabled this stack. After restaring the app few times, it got to work for a while and then got stuck again. I also find the user interface quite unfriendly and counter-intuitive in multiple places. You need to learn how to use it. One may think that flash cards should be extremly easy to work with but this is definitely not the case.
I use this app all of the time for my classes. It helps with my studying and I especially love the option to create multiple choice quizes. What I don’t like is when I go to set up a quiz and I am told that it isn’t possible because there are no cards in that stack. This is super aggrivating especially after I spend hours creating cards. This needs to get fixed soon!!!
I do use this app because it works best for me out of all the other flashcards apps, but for whatever reason, the longer this app stays open, the more and more memory it hogs and it just gets slower and slower and slower until ultimately it stops responding or it could end up contributing to a unresponsive OS X, which has happened to me on a number of annoying occasions. iCloud sync, as others have pointed out is still extremely buggy, not to mention that there is no way to select only certain stacks to sync or not sync to iOS devices. And there is no more WiFi sync, so iCloud is your only option if you want to use it with an iOS device. Despite the developer insisting they’re always trying to make this app better, it doesn’t seem like they try to quash bugs or add new requested features with any kind of regularity, which is really disappointing.
The concept is fantastic, and in the past has been a wonderful way to study. However, things have gone downhill with the latest updates. I still use the desktop version on my laptop, but the mobile (both iPad and iPhone) versions are unusable. There are signficiant issues with this app: 1) The iCloud sync is nonfunctional. It used to work well, but with the last two updates has completely become defunct. PLEASE FIX THIS. Many of us who paid quite a bit of money for this app did so becuase of this feature, only to discover that it does not work. If you are going to take our money, we expect a functional product. Anything less is robbery. Also, still unsure why WiFi sync was taken off in the newest version (and the website gives the worse explanation i.e. ”we couldn’t figure out how to make it work, but wanted to continue to sell a non-functional product.”) 2) The app is painfully slow. It can take 3-5 minutes to load a stack….assuming that the app doesn’t crash (which brings me to my next point). 3) The app crashes. Not just once in a while….it crashes every few minutes. I am running it on a brand new iPad Air, which is nimble and spritely with other apps, but Mental Case throws a stick in the wheels. Seriously, is this a beta version? I hope these issues can be addressed. As one reviewer as pointed out, the company website offers no comofort or practicle solutions. Unfortunately, I think the Mental Case Faculty has rested on their laurels and has given up supporting their paying customers.
This app really doesnt work well and is full of bugs… I wasted my money and haven’t been able to talk to anyone to get a refund or news about an update. DON’T BUY!
What I like about the application: 1. It is very customizeable. I only use it for language study but it along with the mobile version has a bounty of options for studying. I would say it has more than I’m using now, but I can see myself playing around with the mutliple memorization options in the application. 2. It hardly ever crashes. Cons: 1. Dated UI. I really would like to get rid of the “real world” look. I’m sure they are working on something and this is honestly the least of my complaints. 2. Editing/Creating slides is more tedious than it needs to be. I wish I could zoom out on the slides when looking at them in grid view so I can organize them better in this view. 3. I wish it was easier to create templates. Right now it is too many steps. I should be able to click File>New Template and make one from there. 4. It would be nice to be able to have “tiered” slides. I would like to be able to see the Word, then have to first know one element of it, then another, and another, etc. The multi faceted option doesn’t quite work this way because I can’t dictate which “facet” comes first as far as I know. 5. iCloud sync should be AUTOMATIC. I shouldn’t have to force sync on either the desktop or mobile application. This application has been good for me, and I don’t knwo of any better ones on the market. This along with the mobile application sure beats creating note cards, but a number of improvements could be made.
Medical student at Tulane. The Mac app is fantastic, as is the iOS. The study tools include more than just flashcards. I especially love the utterly easy and efficient ability to take a screenshot while making flashcards. The system and design is far superior to Anki in my opinion. The programs automated study schedule is flexible and very useful. I have used the iCloud sync feature and it’s absolutely golden. Make most flashcards at home/on desktop and fit them into my study routine. Random facts learned in clinic added on iPad/iPhone. Huge time saver!
Mental Case has been one of the best apps I ever bought. Using for years now.
